Anybody Out There Want Some Mens Ties?

Is anybody out there interested in a bunch of mens ties?  These were given to me along with some other fabric scraps and I have no use for them.  Here is a quickie picture of some of them and I can take a more detailed one of the whole group if you wish.  I have 12 regular ties and one Christmas tie.  I will gift these to the first person who says they want them if you are willing to pay the postage.

Shortest blog post ever!

No, I can't just leave it at that.  I have to share something quilty.  Hmm.  Let's see.  I am up to row 7 (out of 15) on my king size quilt.  Making progress!

Here are a few blocks I made this week for my Civil War Sampler quilt.  Struggling with getting the points to match up on these.  I chose to make the 8 inch block instead of the 12 and that was a mistake.  The 8 inch blocks have some odd size pieces and the instructions say to sew with a scant 1/4 inch.  I have a hard enough time trying to sew accurate regular 1/4 inch seams!

And here is another squirrel project to use up some scraps. I'm gonna make a chicken quilt!  I made this block wrong but it was good practice.

I seem to have an attraction to them.  I am waffling between making an entire quilt with the same block or doing a variety of different chicken blocks.  I already have three chicken patterns now and there are probably more out there.  Well whatever I decide to do, it will be scrappy!

Oh wow!  Did you see the quilt finish by Kelly over at My Quilt Infatuation??  Oh my!  I have been wondering what in the world I am going to do with all the extra 1 1/2" log cabin strips I have after finishing the blocks for my king size quilt and this is soooooooo gonna be it!

Thanks for the inspiration Kelly!

I'm only up to 18 inches but I think it's going to end up pretty large!  I think I lost track of which side I was supposed to sew next somewhere along the line.  Oh well, with all those scraps who is going to notice!

You can see why I have so few finishes.  I am easily distracted.  😄

  1. Love the colors of your Civil War blocks, they look like fun. Wow on that Log Cabin by Kelly. I'll be interested to see how large yours gets; you certainly have a good start on it! I was reading what Kelly said about not pressing it while piecing and how she had to smooth it from the center while basting, and I got tired just reading about it - lol! Hope your summer is going well. :)

  2. I think your points look wonderful. Don't sweat the small stuff. :-)
As for a chicken quilt - what a fun idea. I look forward to seeing this one come together. Have fun Janice.

  3. I've always subscribed to the theory that distraction is a good thing. Squirrel moments abound (hey, that should be the name of a group!!). Love that take on a log cabin . Reminded me of when I first learned to crochet many years ago and the rage at the time was to make gigantic Granny square afghans. It's a wonder I ever did any more crocheting after I finished that beast!

  4. I have "Shiny Bunny" brain. Little flits of fancy that interrupt the logic. My nephew is the 3rd Joseph in the family so we collected Grampa's ties when he passed away, then "stole some from his Dad and added more from uncles. Haven't decided on an actual pattern yet. Make it look like ties? or use a quilt pattern like Log Cabin? Decisions, decisions...oh there's a shiny Bunny!

    2. Can you hear me now? I am so techo no-no. Don't even have a cell. But dogs and quilts - I got that covered in spades. Love the Chickens but the Log Cabin is so inspirational - just leave it by the cutting table and every project will "donate" to this. Memories times 100!

  5. Oh my goodness, I had to laugh when you said you're easily distracted, Janice! That is my middle name these days! I did see Kelly's post, and started sewing 1.5 inch strips together this afternoon. I'm laughing at myself, but I sure have plenty of them to sew together! I love your Civil War sampler blocks, too!

  8. The squirrels have been visiting my sewing room, too! I sometimes think, "If I just get this cut out, then I'll be all ready to start sewing." However, I have a few more cut out than I have begun to sew. All in good time, eh? I hope you find someone to take the ties and make something beautiful out of them. I have some I could contribute, but my husband would not approve, lol.

  9. But what fun distractions you have! I love how you just jumped right in to that quilt like Kelly’s. And chickens! Now I want to see your other patterns. Good luck with the ties. I’ve seen some neat projects with them, but am not attempted.

    1. I sure am! I think I've finally found a forumula for actually getting things done that works for me. Sew on two projects at the same time and use each one as a leader/ender for the other. I'm getting so much done!

  11. You've definitely got some fun distractions in the works. Love the chicken block, that will be a fun quilt no matter which way you go on the blocks.

  15. I always envision making a king size quilt as quite an adventure! It’s been years since I’ve made anything larger than a large twin. Loved seeing your civil war blocks! Thanks for sharing Kelly's link!
