Blue Sky Sundaes

Yes, I know I am crazy!  I am making another quilt for one of Ashley's graduating friends.  How could I not?  These girls are like family!  And there is probably one more . . .

Anyway,  she is a cutie patootie that likes sky blue and old fashioned things.   I bought one jelly roll and one layer cake of Blue Sky Sundaes by Edyta Sitar of Laundry Basket Quilts for Andover Fabrics which looks like this:

I know some of you have sewn hundreds of quilts, so I am seriously seeking suggestions for patterns to use.  Preferably something that goes together fairly quickly.   Hit me with your best shot!  What is your favorite layer cake and jelly roll pattern that would look good with this fabric?  Keep in mind that this girl is, in her own words, "an old soul."

I seriously appreciate the input I get from my more experienced quilter friends!

  1. Welll, I may not be one of your more experienced quilters but I find rectangles of 2" x 3-1/2" can be combined in quick and interesting patterns.

  2. That's beautiful fabric! I haven't made this pattern, but it looks fairly easy and would be sweet with those blues:

I've only ever combined a jelly roll with the matching charm squares, so I'm eager to see what you try :)

  3. Gorgeous fabrics. How about a Great Granny Square?

  4. Such pretty fabrics will make up a lovely quilt! There are some good suggestions already! I'll have to put on my thinking cap! I'm just sitting down to my first cup of coffee, so my brain hasn't yet engaged! I very seldom work with precut other than fat quarters, so nothing comes to mind right away. The layer cake makes me think of quick and easy HSTs, though. Good luck!

  5. Those would make some very pretty heart blocks. Mix up blue on beige and beige on blue. Cluck, Cluck Sew had a great tutorial on making different size blocks. http://cluckclucksew.com/2015/01/making-heart-blocks-in-multiple-sizes.html

Making more graduation quilts isn't crazy, at least you didn't try to get them all done before graduation. I've already got DT's initial requests for college graduation quilts! Which is good, it will take me 4 years to get to them all!

  6. Very pretty fabrics! I am not much help, I haven't worked with pre-cuts too much. I imagine stars though, or even a Yellow Brick Road type with those fabrics.

  7. That fabric combo is lovely .... so different from what I am using right now but I still love it! No help on the pattern front because I don't buy precuts ....

  8. I absolutely love is fabric. We recently purchased some 1/2 yard cuts of it and are currently trying to decide what to make.

  9. I'm not much good for this because I buy pre cuts and then I don't know what to do with them. It's a lovely colour combination though. I do have a book on using different pre cuts together, I'll see if I can find it.
