So as you all know, I'm making a chevron quilt with hearts and here is the first heart! I'm not even done cutting out the pieces for it all yet but I couldn't resist sewing at least ONE of them together. :)
While I'm in the midst of piecing this, I have been pondering about how to quilt it. I've done searches all over the place for ideas and while there are OODLES of tutorials for making chevron quilts, I haven't had much luck finding ideas on the quilting part of it. Even in the images I've found there aren't a lot of good pictures of the quilting. Here are my favorites so far:
Found at Sew Kind of Wonderful, I couldn't find the exact post this was on.
Found at Piece N Quilt
Found at Thread Tales from a Scrappy Quilter
I would love to see all the different ways you've quilted your chevron quilts. Will you share them with me? I can't imagine there are very many people out there who haven't made a chevron quilt by now. I'm needing ideas!! I would be delighted to do another post showing any ideas that are shared with me with a link back to your blog.

Thanks so much for stopping by!
Hi, I've only created two small chevron quilts. I chose to echo the chevron in both only on the white/solid fabric allowing the colorful fabrics to shine. I do love the examples you've shown.... the pebbles with the straight line quilting looks great. The first quilt is amazing, but way beyond my quilting skills. Best of luck with your finish.
ReplyDeleteHah! I have not made a chevron quilt. I used chevron printed fabric in a quilt once, does that count?! But seriously, I think the pictures you found where each "zigzag" has its own quilting pattern is a great way to handle the quilting. I like that a lot better than an allover quilting design that would deemphasize the chevron piecing. And I LOVE your Kaffe Fassett fabric, by the way. Great pick for the chevron quilt!
ReplyDeleteI've never made a chevron quilt, but the ones you featured are lovely, the quilting is sunning. I'm following how your chevron hearts quilt turns out, great fabric choices.

A chevron quilt is on my list to do! Love the quilting inspiration you have found ..... Would love to be able to quilt like the one on Sew Kind of Wonderful ....now I am thinking I should do a mini just to play!!!
ReplyDeleteLove the first block, it's bright and bold. I'm no help on quilting motifs as I don't do my own quilting. Any of the ideas you found would work well.
ReplyDeleteHA! While waiting for the comment box to load, I read the first line of your previous post, and you ARE good at alliteration. fellow fabric fondlers, snort! I used that first photo design (the white sections) on a scrap quilt and it looks really cool stitched out. I haven't made (gasp) a chevron quilt... Love your purple heart!
ReplyDeleteI haven't made one, but I like them. I'm thinking the white could have feathers, though, if you're into that.
ReplyDeletefeather quilted chevron found on pinterest.
I've made a couple. They are fun to quilt. You can see them on my pinterest board--Mary Marcotte (Fleur de Lis Quilts) look under "trunk, show" or on my blog--fleurdelisquilts.blogspot.com Hope you find something helpful.
ReplyDeleteWow, those chevron quilts!!! Now I want to make one just to quilt it like that. Beautiful.
ReplyDeleteI think we are thinking on the same wave length. I've been working on a heart quilt as well and was thinking chevrons. I was kind of thinking of something similar to the first quilt you have pictured. And you very first picture reminds me...I need to add that movie to my "to watch list."
ReplyDeleteI'm one of those quilters - and I have no idea how to quilt it. Your samples are fabulous to me - lots of ideas there. Thanks for linking to WIPs Be Gone.
ReplyDeleteGreat blog! Is your theme custom made or did you download it from somewhere?
ReplyDeleteA design like yours with a few simple tweeks would really
make my blog stand out. Please let me know where
you got your theme. Thank you
